Abolition or Pro-Life?

Originally published June 8, 2022

Sanctity of Life Sunday is this Sunday, January 18.

Do you know the differences between the abolition movement and the pro-life movement? It’s a good thing for all Christians to be informed about.

Watch A Storm Comes Rolling Down the Plain, then listen in to our A Word Fitly Spoken interview with Brett Baggett, one of the key figures in the documentary.

The position of the abolition movement is that it should be spearheaded by the church, and so most of the leaders of the movement and activities are pastors and other men. But women play a vital role in the abolition movement, too. Listen in as Susan White tells us how to get involved.

I also thought this interview with Samuel Sey, Nathaniel Jolly, and Ekkie Tepsupornchai on the Truth Be Known podcast was insightful and helpful:

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this podcast on Abolition vs Abortion. Until today, I had not heard of the abolition movement. I live in KY and am going to get involved in contacting my state reps to write a bill for this in our state.

    1. Rebecca- I shared your comment with Brett (the pastor we did the podcast with) and Dusty (who was in the documentary), and they were very encouraged! Dusty said if you’d like to connect with someone in KY who can help you, you may want to touch base with Clay Hall, who is an abolitionist and the pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Paducah. His contact information is on the church website: https://oakgrovepaducah.com/.

  2. I know this is an old article, but the movie at the link below broke my heart when I first watched it, and when I hear of any discussion of abolition I can only hope this information gets into more hands.

I am definitely an abolitionist. I hate starting the next sentence with a “but”… but please read the article and watch the linked movie. It’s about how Canada lost its law against abortion… yes, you understood that right… Canada has absolutely NO laws against abortion. It is completely legal up to birth for any reason at all. And the bill that WAS brought before parliament was defeated because of pro-aborts AND abolitionists…. the abolitionists fought against it because they thought it didn’t protect enough. So the bill never went through and the gov’t of Canada has been afraid to touch the issue ever since.

I disagree with gov’t officials who are not willing to put their careers on the line for the sake of pre-born children, I have no sympathy for them at all. But, if a bill comes before them that gives even a modicum of protection, well, it’s better than NOTHING…. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ
