Reader Recommended Churches

One of the great joys of this ministry is helping people find doctrinally sound churches to get plugged into. An awesome resource for finding good churches is my readers, especially my social media and blog followers, whose recommendations I continue to add on to the list below.

If you’re looking for a church in a certain area,
scroll down to the list.

Also, be sure to check out the
church search engines and other resources
at the Searching for a new church? tab
in the blue menu bar at the top of this page.

Please read ALL of the information in this section before recommending a church. Recommendations which do not meet these requirements will not be accepted.

If you’ve got a personal connection to a doctrinally sound church and would like to publicly recommend it, you can do so in the comments section of this article. Please include the website of the church you’re recommending. (Churches submitted without websites will not be considered for inclusion on the list.)

Before recommending a church, please make sure it meets all of the parameters listed below, and please check the list of churches to make sure the church you’re recommending isn’t already on the list.

Due to doctrinal issues, at this time I am not accepting recommendations for:

  • United Methodist Churches
  • Calvary Chapel churches (continuationist)
  • Christian and Missionary Alliance (CMA) churches (continuationist, egalitarian, social justice)
  • Continuationist churches
  • Any church that believes/teaches entire sanctification/sinless perfection
  • Any church that believes/teaches a genuinely regenerated Christian can lose or forfeit his salvation
  • Churches that consider Calvinism/Reformed theology to be false teaching
  • KJV Only churches (Churches which consider the King James Version to be the only acceptable and/or inspired translation of the Bible. Churches which merely prefer using the KJV are fine.)
  • Any church that uses music from Bethel, Jesus Culture, Hillsong, Elevation, anyone connected with these groups (such as Phil Wickham), Catholics, non-Christians, or any other contemporary musician who isn’t doctrinally sound.
  • Any church that uses or recommends books and materials from false teachers. (This now includes churches recommending or affiliated with The Gospel Coalition.)
  • Any church that violates Scripture’s teaching on the role of women in the church (1 Timothy 2:11-3:7). This includes, but is not necessarily limited to: churches with a female bearing the title of “pastor” (of anything) or “elder,” churches which allow women to function in pastoral roles without the title of pastor / elder (for example: female ministers of music or worship leaders; discipleship “facilitators” or “directors” who essentially function as elders / associate pastors, and so on), churches which allow women to preach to, hold unbiblical authority over, or instruct men or co-ed groups in the Scriptures (for example: teaching / co-teaching co-ed adult Sunday School / Bible study classes or home / small groups).
  • Any church that does not have a detailed statement of faith (“What we believe,” “Doctrinal statement,” etc.) or link to such,
  • Any church that does not have the pastor’s name (and pastoral staff / elders, if any) listed on its website.
  • Any church that does not have a website (a social media page alone is not enough).

Thank you for recommending your church!

See a church that shouldn’t be on the list?

Please keep in mind that this list has been in existence since 2017. Unfortunately, a few of the churches listed below may have taken an unbiblical turn since that time. If you see a church listed that you know for a fact isn’t doctrinally sound, please email me or post a comment to let me know, and provide specific evidence.

Examples of “isn’t doctrinally sound” include, but are not limited to: holding/practicing an unbiblical view of homosexuality, allowing women to serve as pastors, elders, or other positions of teaching/holding authority over men, a pattern of using Bible study materials authored by false teachers, a pattern of using music from heretical sources, New Apostolic Reformation, Critical Race Theory, social justice tendencies/teachings, significant and ongoing ungodly behavior by the pastor or church members, etc.

*A few of the churches on the list have deaconesses / female deacons. There is biblical support for this position (please click here for more information) in some cases, and this does not necessarily mean the church is doctrinally unsound or feminist. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the church directly to discuss this with the pastor.

DISCLAIMER: I cannot personally vouch for the theology of any of the churches recommended nor the people who recommended them. Please use this list only as a suggestion of churches to check out using biblical wisdom and discernment. (Concerns about deaconesses/female deacons? See * above.)

  1. I want to recommend my church in Bremerton Washington. They are committed to expository teaching of the word. It is an absolute gem that is tucked away in a run down neighborhood near the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. It’s called Faith Community Bible Church, and the pastor’s name is Mark Barrett. My family used to attend church is that were more charismatic, but the Lord opened our eyes up to the truth, and this church has been phenomenal. No church is perfect, but we know that we are getting the truth here.

  2. In addition to the church that we attend regularly, I would also like to recommend a church that we visited while hunting in the area. It was a little too far away for us, but they are absolutely committed to preaching the Word in an expository way. The pastor is SOLID and has no problem speaking out against all the false teachings that we see running rampant in the church today. https://calvarypo.org/about/ Calvary Church in Port Orchard Washington

I live nearby and I am sorry to say there is nothing closer that teaches the whole counsel of God. We are in a dry area of the country. Try them all and pray for wisdom:) Thanks! Grace”

*A pastor friend of mine in the area tells me that Faith Bible has either closed or been taken over by another church. Might want to check that out.

  7. Michelle,
I am thankful for this resource. I have a Catholic friend that visited my church, Beth Haven Baptist Church, Cheat Lake area in Morgantwon, West Virginia, and heard the doctrines of Grace, a solid preaching by Pastor David Coe, and now she is back to the area where she works in Romney, West Virginia. She desires to go to church but I am not familiar with the area or if there is any reformed church even 25 miles away. Does any of the members here has any info? thanks so much!!

    1. Hi Nadua- Be sure to have her check out the “Searching for a new church?” tab up at the very top of this page. There are lots of church location search engines there that could help. Also, I have a Facebook friend who lives in WV, but I’m not sure which city. I’ll ask her if she has any suggestions.

  8. Hi, I would like to recommend Richardson Baptist Church in Franklinton Louisiana. They are on Facebook and sermon audio. It is a reformed Baptist Church that holds to the 1689 Baptist confession. The preaching and teaching is expository. We are a small church out in the country of Franklinton Louisiana.

      1. Here are some of the more recent issues with Calvary Chapel that have caused me to err on the side of caution and decline to recommend them. I realize that some CC churches disagree with the unbiblical direction CC leadership has decided to go in and have broken away from the CC organization, which is fine. I’m totally OK with recommending former CC churches that left for this reason. However, some CC churches that have broken away have kept “Calvary Chapel” in the name of their church. They’re certainly welcome to do that, but it makes it impossible for someone like me to tell simply from their website whether they’re in agreement with CC leadership or not, and I do not have time to track down each of these churches and interview the pastor about their doctrine. So if they still have “Calvary Chapel” in the name of the church, or if it’s clear that they’re still in partnership with the CC organization, I’m going to decline to recommend them.

A second issue is that I have looked at some of the founding documents establishing the CC organization (provided by a CC church), and it seems that one of their basic doctrines for the organization is continuationism (the belief that the sign gifts continue today). If a church is a member of the CC organization, I have no choice but to assume that church embraces continuationism. I believe that continuationism is unbiblical, so I do not knowingly recommend continuationist churches.

      2. Thank you for pointing me to this information. I did not know this…I have had inklings of misgivings after attending a Calvary Chapel for about 12 years but couldn’t really put my finger on the issue until our pastor went off the deep end committing adultery and stepping down. I hate to say I have not been able to trust ANY church since then and haven’t been attending anywhere. I know I need to be in fellowship and am so torn. I live in Arizona now and see only three recommended churches in this huge state. One is near me so will try to give it a go.

I hope everything will go well and that it will be a wonderful worship experience. Don’t forget to click the “Searching for a new church?” tab at the top of this page- there are several church search engines linked there and you will probably be able to find more good churches near you. 10. I can personally recommend Walsh Baptist Church, 10 minutes southwest of Simcoe, in the village of Walsh, Ontario Canada. Our pastor is like a modern day Charles Spurgeon, right on down to the heavy beard, but more importantly of course, he preaches doctrinally sound, theologically robust sermons, all the while drawing his congregation’s focus to the gospel of Jesus Christ in all it’s fullness. Website is: https://walshbaptistchurch.weebly.com/

Our Pastor is Doug Heck and he is a graduate of The Master’s Seminary where Dr. John MacArthur is president. I also highly recommend his wife, Susan, for her bible studies and also as a speaker. You can read about her on the above website, as well as her own website: http://www.withthemaster.org/
To date, she has memorized every book of the New Testament except Luke which she will memorize this year.
Pastor Doug is an accomplished expository preacher and preaches one book of the bible, one verse at a time. Our church is full of the love of Christ and has been a wonderful blessing to my husband and me. We have to drive an hour to get to our church, but it is well worth every minute.

Redemption is a new-ish church plant, SBC-affiliated. I’m thankful for their exegetical preaching, their unwavering devotion to Scripture as the only source of truth, their desire for the name of Jesus to be made known among the nations, and their continual declaration of the gospel of Christ as our only saving grace. After moving to Rochester (straight out of college, from a different state!) for a new job, it took me months to find a church. One Sunday here, and I was done searching. Like any church, we are not without our issues and conflicts. But doctrine is sound, and for that I’m grateful.

I’m also new here and have been greatly convicted by some of what I’ve found here. Thank you for your devotion to truth and ultimately to Christ!

I’m sure the people at WBCC are lovely and kind, but I’m going to decline to add WBCC at this time for two reasons: a) I can’t seem to find a statement of faith page on their website (maybe my eyes are tired and I accidentally overlooked it?) and b) the worship playlist on the “New Here?” page indicates that this church uses Hillsong, Elevation, Bethel, and Jesus Culture music almost exclusively. (If you’re not familiar with the heretical {literally} nature of these organizations, you can find more information at the “Popular False Teachers” tab at the top of this page.)

You can either reply to this comment (I’ll keep your reply hidden) or e-mail me at MichelleLesley1@yahoo.com. Just to clarify, it’s OK if a church is not Reformed itself or doesn’t agree with Reformed theology. They just can’t be on the list if they’re teaching that Reformed theology/Calvinism is false doctrine or heresy.

    1. Hi Carey-
Thank you so much for taking the time to recommend your church. I’m sure your pastor and church family are wonderful godly people, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to lovingly and respectfully decline, at this time, to add CBC to the list.

There are two reasons for this: a woman serving as the minister of music (I’ve explained about this in this article), and several problematic authors on the recommended discipleship resources list (Richard Foster, Bill Hybels, Ronnie Floyd, Lauren Chandler, and Raechel Myers are the ones I’m familiar with). I hope you’ll understand that this is in no way meant to be a slight against you or your church, and should these issues change, I’ll be glad to reconsider CBC in the future.

  32. Hi Michelle,
I am new to your website and am finding my way around. I’m utilizing the links for finding a new church, and wondered if any of your followers on Facebook would have recommendations for doctrinally sound churches in/near Rockford, IL. I’m not on social media so my access is a bit limited in that regard. Through your blogs, I’ve recently come to realize just how false my two former churches have been. I’m discovering just how ignorant I’ve been and how easily “duped” I was in Bible studies that were suggested by friends who preach about expository teachings and “true doctrine” but all three studies I went to with them were Beth Moore, Priscilla Shier, and Ann Graham Lotz. I honestly had no clue. I’m just sick over how little discernment I’ve had (and have even questioned if I’m truly saved) because my foundation has been thoroughly rocked after reading through numerous pages on your website as well as the links you’ve included. I am SO thankful for finding your site, but boy, has it been a painful journey realizing just how far off course I’ve been.I desperately want to find a church that has sound biblical teaching, as I am literally starting from scratch. Thanks so much to you and your readers if they have any recommendations that I could research.

    1. Hi Shannon-

Welcome! I rejoice with you at the work God is doing in your heart and life, and I’m so glad you’re looking for a good church. Have you had a chance to work through all of the church search engines at the “Searching for a new church?” tab? I did a quick spot check and I’m seeing a couple in Rockford at the Founders link and at The Masters Seminary link (so there are probably more listed at the other church search engine links).

I love my social media followers, but anybody with any sort of beliefs could be following me and could recommend a church that’s not good (and that has happened a few times in the past). I have much more trust in the doctrinal standards of the church search engines I have listed, so, I always recommend thoroughly exhausting those first before resorting to asking my followers. If you check out all of those search engines and still can’t find a good church, let me know, and then we will touch base with my social media followers.

      1. Thank you so much, Michelle, for your response! I was able to find a couple of churches via the Founders link and one I’m considering is Rock Valley Bible Church. I looked at all the sections on their website and there were two things I wanted to ask you about. I fully admit that I’m new on this journey so my questions may not be issues at all, but I wanted your guidance on them, if possible. One was I looked at the music they had listed and I did see some names you had listed as doctrinally sound, but a couple of other names came up that I saw that I’ve seen on some of your resources links as being a problem (Matt Maher being one, and Phillips, Craig & Dean). So I hesitated when I saw that. I also went to the church’s “Resources” link and it had a link for Bible teaching of John MacArthur (great) and also a link for Bible teaching of John Piper (uh….); this is what gave me pause. I wondered if you could look at the site and see if it’s one you’d would add to the recommendation list of fellow readers as above? After what I’ve been through with the last two churches, I admit I’m very unsure of myself at this stage in the journey on recognizing both the red flags as well as the subtler nuances. Website is

        Thank you so very much!

      2. Hi Shannon-

Matt Maher and Phillips, Craig, and Dean are musicians (for anybody reading this who might not know), not theologians, but I completely understand why seeing their names would give you pause. Although I don’t proactively recommend John Piper, he is a generally doctrinally sound brother in Christ, and he’s not someone I’d dismiss a potential church over.

If you think this church is otherwise a viable possibility for you, what I would recommend doing is visiting for a month or so, including visiting Sunday School, to see if it seems like a good fit. You may find that it’s not, for whatever reason, which would make their music and book recommendations moot. But if you visit for a while and it feels like it would be a good fit, set up an appointment with the pastor to lovingly discuss your concerns. And keep in mind that many pastors are ignorant of the biblical issues with popular Christian musicians and pastors. It may have been an honest mistake. Or he may be aware of the issues and is trying to move the church toward more doctrinally sound resources. But you’ll never know until you talk to him.

        Hope this helps. :0)

    1. Hi Alyssa- Thank you so much for taking the time to recommend Abundant Life, but I’m afraid I can’t include it on this list. In case you might be interested as to why, here are a few reasons:

The women’s group is currently doing a study of a book by Jackie Hill Perry

There is a Spiritual Formation department listed on the staff page

The counseling ministry uses worldly and unbiblical therapeutic approaches (I say this as someone who has a degree and a half in secular psychology and counseling, so I’m familiar with the methods they’re using) rather than biblical counseling.

The pastor’s book is endorsed by New Apostolic Reformation heretics Samuel Rodriguez and Rod Parsley

Again – sincerely – thank you for taking the time, but this is probably a church I would discourage people from attending.

All of our pastors/elders are doctrinally sound (have very thorough doctrinal statements) and are committed to God’s Word and expository preaching/teaching. And the music is theological excellent! We have an ACBC (Association of Certified Biblical Counseling) counseling ministry, are an official ACBC training center, and our Director (an elder) is a graduate of Master’s University.

Could you make a correction here so that people can find us on the map? I thank you and look forward to more encouraging posts and the proper handling of scripture. It is refreshing. Bonnie

    1. Hi Johanna- Thank you so much for taking the time to recommend your church. I regret I’m unable to add them to the list as the playlist for RCC North indicates that music from a number of heretical sources (including Audrey Assad {Catholic}, Phil Wickham {Bethel}, Kari Jobe, Hillsong, Kim Walker-Smith {Bethel}, Pentatonix {not a Christian group, promotes homosexuality}, Matt Maher {Catholic}, and possibly others since I’m not familiar with all of the artists) is used in worship. Perhaps this is some sort of innocent oversight or just a matter of the pastor not realizing it’s necessary to vet the source of the music a church uses. If, at some point in the future, all music is from doctrinally sound sources, I’d be delighted to add both churches to the list as this was the only error I encountered, and I actually found the statement of faith and doctrinal distinctives very strong and impressive. Thank you again.

      1. I think that might be a misunderstanding. On Spotify I found a playlist made by someone who is a relatively new believer who used to attend the North church. That playlist is NOT a reflection of the endorsement of the leadership team or the music sung in church. That person was never in a position of authority or leadership.

        Like

      2. Oops, sorry after speaking with my husband I need to correct my previous reply. The creator of that Spotify playlist is not who I thought it was (their names are nearly identical!) The creator of that playlist is one of the drummers at the North church. But again, it is not an official representation of music endorsed by our leadership team. It’s his own personal playlist of songs we do at church plus others that he likely just wanted to learn or play along with.

        Like

      3. Thank you for the information and correction, Johanna. However, that’s not what’s indicated on the church website where the playlist is located (https://redemptioncalgarynorth.ca/ministries/redemption-worship/)

The issue is not really who put the playlist together, who put it on the church website, or whether or not that person is/was in any position of leadership. The issue is that the church has put the playlist on their website as “these are the songs we sing.” It is under the heading “What We Sing” with the statement “This playlist is updated weekly to reflect the songs we’re currently singing at Redemption Church.” So whatever the intent of the leadership team might be with regard to endorsing these heretical groups or not, what it looks like to every discerning person who visits that page of the church website is, “Our church is totally fine with these heretical groups.”

Additionally, it raises the question, if your church leadership is not OK with these groups, why is the church is using their songs in the worship service? The website says the church is using these songs on the playlist. You said these are the “songs we do at church”. That’s really the main issue here.

        Like

      2. Michelle, the senior pastor or pastor preaching the sermon chooses the songs, and all she might do is choose the choral anthem. There’s a choir loft and she directs the choir but not the congregation. The pastor announces the hymn or psalm we are singing from the hymnal or psalter, and the music director never speaks during the services.

There is no staff page where I can check to see if this church has women on staff as pastors or in other biblically inappropriate positions.

The men’s ministry is doing a study by Craig Groeschel, who is a false teacher and yokes with many false teachers.

The women’s ministry is doing a study by Karen Ehman, who mishandles Scripture and works for Lysa TerKeurst’s Proverbs 31 Ministries.

The playlist on the youth page features music by Hillsong, Phil Wickham (Bethel), and Kanye West.

The upcoming women’s retreat features false teacher, Sheila Walsh.

    1. Hi Philip- Thank you so much for taking the time to recommend your church. I’m sure it is a loving and warm church family, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to decline to add it to the list at this time. Looking at the GBC songbook on the “worship” page, I’m seeing songs by Phil Wickham (close ties to Bethel), Matt Maher (Catholic), Hillsong, The Gospel Coalition, Ghost Ship (Mars Hill/Mark Driscoll), and numerous songs from The Village Church (which has really taken a turn for the woke over the past few years). The women’s group is doing a study by Jen Wilkin. I’m seeing quotes from Tim Keller and Mike Cosper. GBC is part of Acts 29, which I know is continuationist-friendly (although it’s unclear to me whether GBC is itself continuationist). Taken separately, any one of those things might not be a big deal. Together, that’s too many red flags for me to feel comfortable adding GBC to the list, because all of those things are going to raise red flags for people who utilize this list.

    1. Hi Jackeya- Faith Family looks like a great church, and I was all set to add it until I looked at the Recommended Readings page and saw numerous names that are, understandably, going to cause people looking for a new church to question Faith Family’s commitment to sound doctrine. I’m sure the pastor just isn’t aware of the turn many of these once trustworthy (or thought to be trustworthy) authors and speakers have taken, but I can’t, in good conscience, list this church when I’ve declined others for less. If you’re still in touch with the pastor and want to give him a heads up, some (I’m not familiar with everyone listed) of the problematic names I’m seeing are Jen Wilkin, Jackie Hill Perry, Francis Chan, Tim Keller, Lecrea, J.D. Greear, The Gospel Coalition, Theology Gals, Russell Moore, Matt Chandler, and the recommendation of The Message “Bible”. The main issue with most (not all) of these is wokeness / social justice.

Should Faith Family more carefully vet the authors/speakers it recommends and remove the problematic authors/speakers from its website, I’d be happy to reconsider them for inclusion on the list.

First, I’m sure your pastor just doesn’t know (a lot of people don’t) but there are some serious issues of heresy with The Bible Project. My friend, Pastor Gabe Hughes, has delved into them extensively and demonstrates from Scripture where they go astray. Click here for his article/video.

Also, the YouVersion app is under the direction of false teacher, Craig Groeschel, and his church. It contains teachings by a lot of false teachers.

As I said, I’m sure he just doesn’t know, but if I were a pastor, I would want to know about any false doctrine/teachers I’m potentially exposing my flock to, even accidentally.

I just left a church because there was a guest women pastor preaching on a few Sundays sermons and I thought it’s a false church because they allowed that. Is this only disagreement too ? When I said I’m looking for a church where they really teach the truth I meant the whole truth so if Presbyterian church teach differently about baptism then the Bible then they don’t teach the whole truth, right ? I also learned about false teachers lately so I m very confused now. Why can we disagree about baptism but not women pastors ? What’s the difference and how should I know things like that ? And the biggest question who should I believe if there are so many wolves in sheepskins ?

Also, if you will carefully study all of the links at the “What to look for in a church” section of the link I gave you above (especially the links in the second paragraph of this article), that will answer some of your questions, too.

Regarding your question about women pastors, I think you’ll find the articles in my Rock Your Role series (I’d recommend starting with Jill In the Pulpit) to be helpful, as well as this article.

If the website stated somewhere that NewSong affirms and holds to the 1689, that would be sufficient (because the 1689 is a statement of faith), but the way it is, I’m afraid I can’t list it. If NewSong ever does add a statement of faith to the website, please let me know, and I’ll be glad to take another look. Thanks again. :0)

      2. Woohoo! Look at y’all – and a shiny new G3 affiliation, too! Thanks so much for staying on this and getting back to me, Ann! I’m excited to add NewSong to the list! :0)

    1. Hi Paula- You’re absolutely right, you need to be joined to a local church. Be sure you check the Searching for a new church? tab in the blue menu bar at the top of this page, too. There are lots of good church search engines you can check out. I would recommend starting with Founders, then The Master’s Seminary, then the rest.

When it comes to distance, I would say the closer the better so it’s easier for you to get involved. You’ll have to prayerfully consider how far is too far.

    1. Hi Patrice- Thank you for your kind words and for suggesting your church. Can you give me the church’s website? As I said in the article, I can’t consider a church without the website.

      Like

      1. Hi Patrice- Thank you again for submitting your church for consideration for inclusion on the list. At this time, I’m going to have to decline to add GracePoint to the list for a couple of reasons:

        1. GracePoint’s statement of faith in Section X on Spiritual Gifts seems to indicate that GracePoint is a continuationist church to one degree or another. (The wording is in alignment with continuationism, and a cessationist church would not word this section this way.) As stated above, I do not include continuationist churches on the list.

        2. The “Live Services” page under “Resources” implies that it is acceptable to be an “online only attender” of the church and, possibly, that “attending online” is equivalent to membership and faithful, in person attendance (assuming one is not Providentially hindered from attending) at the gathering of the church. If accurate, this is unbiblical ecclesiology.

Thank you so much I am going to try Bowlegs Baptist Church it is about 35 min. drive but I do not think its to far they do not have a website as it is a very small Church its on Facebook. Also I did attend Immanuel Baptist Church here in Shawnee,Okla they are looking for a Pastor and after I did some checking alot of the ladies classes are using Jen Wilkin study guides and videos. There was another Heritage Church Shawnee graduate from Masters Seminary but there is no statement of Faith if you can let me know what you think on either of those it would be greatly appreciated. I am getting so discouraged. Thank you so much for all you do love listening to your Podcast and reading all your articles hope to get to a Conference soon.

    1. Hi Paula- Thank you for your kind words. I’m so sorry you’re growing discouraged. I’m afraid I can’t vet churches “on demand” (and even if I could, I couldn’t do it without the church’s website).

Also, just to make sure I’m being clear – the information in this article is about recommending churches for inclusion on this list, not about attending a particular church. In other words, I’m not saying, for example, that a church has to have a website rather than just a Facebook page in order for you to attend it, I’m just saying I can’t include it on this particular list unless it has a website.

The last time you commented, I suggested that you thoroughly exhaust all of the church search engines here. Have you had a chance to do that? Also, have you tried Christ Reformed Church in Shawnee? You had mentioned it in a previous comment and a friend of mine who lives in OK also recommended it.

      1. This church has a woman in the position of minister of music (and in the worship service video I watched, she instructed the congregation in the Scriptures).

      2. This church uses music from heretical sources (Bethel, Phil Wickham, Cory Asbury, Matt Maher, etc.)

  78. Hello,

I’d like to recommend my home church, First Lutheran Church, in Houston Tx. Beautiful, conservative in theology and moral issues, very gospel based preaching, been a member since 2016. Many of our members left in 2020 bc they were looking for a more woke or gay-affirming pastor/congregation. One recently left bc our pastor and most of the congregation are pro-life. It’s almost like a church plant now. It is affiliated with the NALC, a governing body that does give women pastoral assignments, but our church very much operates as independently as possible, has a lot of choice, and we have never had a female head pastor. There are a couple that do assisting liturgy ministry but that’s just Bible readings and prayers.

I’m sorry, but I am no longer accepting churches who recommend or partner with The Gospel Coalition (“Ministry Networks” page). While it was once a valuable ministry I used myself, TGC has gone woke and platforms racists and false teachers like Thabiti Anyabwile and Jackie Hill Perry. This has been going on for over ten years, plenty of time for pastors and churches to be aware of what’s going on with them. At this point, I have to assume that any church still connected to TGC agrees with the unbiblical trajectory they are on.

    1. Hi Kim- Thank you so much for taking the time to recommend these churches.

I’m afraid I must decline to add Fellowship Dubai for a number of reasons:

–Their “vision” statement says, “We are a church for people who think they don’t like church, so we can help them come to know a God they think they don’t need, tell them about Jesus…”. That’s describing lost people, not saved people. It is “church for the unchurched” ecclesiology, which is unbiblical. Although the lost should always be welcome, church is not for the lost, it’s for the saved – the body of Christ.
–They seem to regard “online church” as equal to in person attendance, as though the livestream of the service is a legitimate church “campus”. This is also an unbiblical ecclesiology. Scripture commands us to gather in person.
–Unless I somehow missed it, there does not seem to be a page listing the pastor and staff of the church, which is a requirement for being listed.
–I watched the music portion of the Dec. 11 service. A woman (women?) appears to be the worship leader (which is unbiblical and disqualifies a church for the list) and there were songs by Phil Wickham (affiliated with Bethel) and Hillsong.

I can’t list Long Hollow either:
–I’ve read some of Robby Gallaty’s stuff, so I already knew he subscribes to the aforementioned “online is a legitimate campus and attendance/membership option,” but I was absolutely horrified to see that he also seems to think do it yourself baptism at home is biblically appropriate.
–The women’s ministry is using materials by Chrystal Evans Hurst and Jen Wilkin. The men’s ministry has a study based on John Maxwell’s principles of leadership. (He’s not doctrinally sound and yokes with a number of false teachers.) Celebrate Recovery is unbiblical.

And, unfortunately, I can’t add Ridgecrest either.
–Some of the co-ed Connection Groups seem to be co-taught by women (i.e. “Join leaders Chuck and Monica Locke and Guy and Lydia Clouse as they lead the group through Explore the Bible.”)
–I watched the music portion of the December 4 worship service, and there were songs by Hillsong and Bethel.

I’m sorry I can’t add any of your recommendations. If you’re attending either of the last two, I would recommend finding a doctrinally sound church either on this list or at the Searching for a new church? tab in the blue menu bar at the top of this page.

I wasn’t able to get IBCC’s doctrinal statement in English, but between my broken Spanish and translating the website into English, I think I was able to piece together that IBCC is complementarian, cessationist, and at least somewhat influenced by John MacArthur. Do I have that right? Does your church meet all the other requirements listed above (for example: Do you use music by Hillsong, Elevation, Bethel, etc.?)?

      1. Hey Michelle, we are complementarian and cessationist and would never play any of those bands in our church. As for connections to Grace Community Church, both Santiago and I (my co-pastor) graduated from TMS and are missionaries sent out from Grace Community Church, so we are significantly influenced by JMac and Grace. haha. The doctrinal statement would be extremely close to the doctrinal statement of GCC. Also, just for precision sake, the country Colombia is with two “O’s” and no “U,” that’s the city in South Carolina!! Thanks for putting us on here. I doubt many readers are in Colombia, but you never know! There is another church in Bogota pastored by another Grace missionary, but I dont think their website is very robust, so I didnt put them, but they are virtually the same as us doctrinally and we work frequently and closely with them and have even started a seminary here in Colombia in cooperation with them. Everything looked pretty good until I clicked over to the church’s Facebook group. There are a number of posts about Celebrate Recovery. That is problematic enough on its own, but the most recent one says that someone will be teaching mindfulness (this is a mystical New Age practice) as a way of meditating on Scripture, and an earlier one indicates that a woman will be teaching on a biblical topic to what I assume will be a co-ed group. I’m afraid I can’t list a church that would endorse those kinds of things.

      1. We don’t run celebrate recovery or co trol anything they do. We just allow them to use our place because we are one of the biggest drug areas in the country. Our leadership doesn’t have anything to do with that. If you’d look at the sermons etc you’d know that. But your loss because it’s a very good church. Our church used to be the area roller rink and it’s in the middle of town and the only place that’s not so worried about their property they won’t share with the community. We let the senior center and other government agencies use the building too.

      2. If your leadership is allowing CR to meet there and do those things, they most certainly do have something to do with it. Would they let Planned Parenthood hold a pro-abortion event in your building? Probably not (at least, I hope not), which means they will say no to some things. They have some sort of standards, those standards just don’t include saying no to groups doing the sorts of unbiblical things this particular CR group is doing. And your “it’s your loss” attitude doesn’t speak very well of your church, either.

Thank you for your reply. You’ve confirmed that I made the right call on this one.

    1. Hi Nicole- I really appreciate that you took the time to recommend your church, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to decline to list it at this time. It’s continuationist, it has a poor ecclesiology (treating “watch parties” as equivalent to joining and attending a local church, instead of encouraging people to join and get involved in a local church) and with the “prophecy updates,” the weak statement of faith, and some other things I’m seeing, I think, if I were able to get a close up look, I would probably find it’s not doctrinally sound. I’m sorry. I’m not trying to be mean, but I’m seeing a lot of red flags.

    1. Hi Sydney- Thanks for taking the time to recommend your church. I’ve added it to the list. I don’t know if you have any input on the church’s website or not, but might I be so bold as to make one small observation/suggestion in case you do? The full name of the church – White Oak Bible Church – doesn’t appear anywhere on the website that I can see. I think it would be really helpful to people searching for a church to at least have it on the home page. Just my 2 cents’ worth. :0)

  88. Thank you Michelle, for your articles and search tools which are very helpful to us as we prepare to move from Pennsylvania to Tennessee. My wife and I can recommend our current church without reservation, Ebenezer Bible Fellowship Church in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. We are a part of the Bible Fellowship Church denomination, and are evangelical, reformed, and baptistic.

    1. Hi Greg. Thank you so much for your kind words and for the recommendation. Could you please provide me with your church’s website? I can’t consider a church for inclusion on the list without that.

      1. Hi Michelle. I’m sorry, I thought I did. I didn’t realize the website block below meant my personal website, and not the website of the church I am recommending.

      2. Hi Greg- Thank you so much for taking the time to recommend Ebenezer. Unfortunately, I’m afraid I’m going to have to decline to add it to the list at this time. I spot checked a few of the worship services, and this church uses Hillsong music, supports a missionary with CRU (which is unfortunately now saturated with Critical Race Theory), and hosts MOPS.

    1. Hi Cindy- Thank you for the heads up on the Missoula church. I’ve fixed the error.

Thank you also for taking the time to recommend Revive Church. Unfortunately, I’m afraid I’m going to have to decline to list it at this time. I know this isn’t your fault or your doing, but you may want to consider passing it along to the (your?) pastor: when I saw on the home page that this church has one “multi-ethnic” service I was so offended I almost didn’t look any further. At first glance what that said to me (and I’m sure many others) is that that service is the only service that’s integrated, i.e. all of the other services are white only. Upon further exploration of the website, I realize that’s not what was meant by whoever wrote that, but it makes a very bad initial impression.

That plus phrases like “compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed” and the frequency with which the words “culture” and “diversity” were used on the “Our History” page signal that this church is woke, or at the very least has a poor ecclesiology. Further, there are women’s classes using materials by Jennifer Rothschild, a section promoting Celebrate Recovery, and a woman is serving as minister of music (“worship leader”), which, as stated above, is disqualifying.

In love, if you’re a member of this church, I would encourage you to utilize this list and the search engines at the Searching for a new church? tab in the blue menu bar at the top of this page and find one that’s more doctrinally sound.

    1. Hi Ryan- Thank you so much for taking the time to recommend your church. I’m afraid I’m going to have to decline to list it at this time due to the fact that the website does not have a statement of faith, which is one of the requirements for a church to be listed. (I read the “What We Believe” page and it has a lovely gospel presentation and core values section, but it does not have a statement of doctrinal belief.) If CFC should add to its website a statement of faith page, a link to a statement of faith (perhaps on your denomination’s or network’s website), or a statement of which confessions it holds to (Westminster, Belgic, London Baptist, etc.), please feel free to re-submit CFC. I will be glad to reconsider it.

    1. Hi Laura- Thanks so much for the recommendation. Got a website for the church? As stated above, I can’t consider a church for inclusion on this list without a website.

I received your other two comments and will not post them as you requested. I’m so sorry for the struggles you have faced in this situation. I wanted to make sure that in addition to this post, you also found the Searching for a new church? tab in the blue menu bar at the top of this page since it has several church search engines and other information that may be helpful.

  90. Hi, Michelle! Can you add Covenant Baptist Church in West Columbia, SC to your recommended churches list? We really enjoyed having you speak at our church yesterday:)

  91. I would like to recommend my church, Grace Covenant in Rock Hill, SC. It’s a church plant of Covenant Baptist in West Columbia, pastored by Mark Corral. My family is so thankful to have found a church with expository preaching and a pastor who is not afraid to speak the truth.

  92. Hi Michelle! I would like to submit the Reformed Baptist Church plant my family is a part of. It is located in Stanley,NC. The church name is Coram Deo Reformed Baptist Church. The website is https://www.coramdeorbc.com/ also I didn’t see 1689.com or 1689seeds.org listed as a recommended place to search. I thought I would mention them in case they might be helpful to add. They are very helpful in looking for reformed confessional Baptist churches. Thanks for all that you do!

    1. Courtney, thank you so much for those two search engines, especially the 1689 Seeds site. We desperately need more good churches planted out there. I’ve added them to the church search tab.

I would love to add Coram Deo to the list, but one of the requirements for a church to be listed is that it must say who the pastor is (and pastoral staff, if any) somewhere on the website. I didn’t see that anywhere. Did I possibly miss it? If not, if they decide to add that information to the website at some point, please let me know, and I’ll be glad to reconsider it for inclusion on the list.
