Christine Caine is “an Australian born, Greek blooded, lover of Jesus, a sought-after international speaker, author and activist. Known for her ability to effectively communicate a message of hope, Christine has a heart for reaching the lost, strengthening leadership, and championing the cause of justice.” Over the last several years, Christine has become a popular conference speaker, a prolific author, a podcaster, and a social media darling.
This is due, in no small part to Christine’s engaging personality. A native of Sydney, Australia, her charming accent, quick wit, and lovely smile immediately capture the attention, and her love and devotion to her husband and children are obvious and endearingly sincere. Unlike some of her over-made, over-coiffed, and overdressed peers, Christine radiates a natural, simple, unpretentious beauty that makes “middle aged” look good, and is a tacit encouragement to distinctly unglamourous women like me.
Admirably, Christine seems to have a true desire to impact the world beyond merely achieving fame and selling books, again, setting her apart from (and, in my opinion, above) many of her cohorts in evangelicalism. She and her husband have formed several different organizations for helping others both inside and outside the church world, such as Zoe Church (church planting in Europe) and Propel Women (success-building for women). But the helping organization Christine is best known for is The A21 Campaign, “an anti-human trafficking organization dedicated to abolishing injustice in the 21st century.” Human trafficking is a horrific evil, and I deeply appreciate Christine’s desire to right this wrong.
I like Christine a lot, as a person. She says she loves Jesus. She has a passion for fighting injustice, and seems like a genuine, down to earth, nice woman who would make a great friend and would be fun to hang out with. And if that’s all it took for me to recommend her to you as a teacher of God’s Word, this article would end here with a ringing endorsement.
But, as James 3:1 tells us, those who teach will be judged with greater strictness. At a bare minimum they must be expected to teach what accords with sound doctrine and to tangibly demonstrate that they love Jesus by keeping his commandments. Unfortunately, Christine’s teachings and some of her actions do not meet even these basic biblical standards, and it is my sad duty to recommend that you not sit under her teaching for the following reasons:
“Pastoring” and Preaching to Men
Christine Caine habitually and unrepentantly rebels against Scripture by preaching to and teaching men. God is abundantly clear in His word that women are not to preach to, teach, or hold authority over men in the gathered body of Believers. And though this simple instruction should be sufficient for us, God also graciously explains to us why He has issued this prohibition- reasons which are still in effect today. Refusing to obey God’s word is sin. And in the same way you should not follow a male pastor or teacher who lives in intentional, unrepentant sin, you should not follow a female teacher who lives in intentional, unrepentant sin.
As I have mentioned previously, teaching men is a good, fast, and easy litmus test for ruling out most female false teachers, because, almost without exception, women who have no qualms about disobeying Scripture by teaching men also teach other false doctrine. If you walked into a church sanctuary and the male pastor who got up to preach was dressed in drag or was wearing a pro-abortion t-shirt or littered his “sermon” with profanity, you would know right away that this is someone who is in disobedience to Scripture and someone you should not listen to. It’s the same way with women who preach to men. It’s easily observable disobedience to Scripture that should quickly tell you this isn’t someone you should be listening to or following, and Christine Caine’s doctrine and practices in other areas bear this out.

False Doctrine
In addition to the false doctrine of women pastoring / preaching, Christine Caine subscribes to and teaches Word of Faith (prosperity gospel) heresy. She is a product of, has held leadership positions at, and is closely affiliated with Hillsong², which is, undeniably, a Word of Faith “church.” Christine is a contributor to the Hillsong blog page, the Hillsong web site maintains a bio page on her, and she is a regularly featured speaker at Hillsong’s Colour Conference for women and other Hillsong events.
Formerly a pastor on staff with Hillsong, Christine still appears to maintain some sort of partnership with this organization. In 2021, she preached at the former Hillsong Phoenix (Christine Caine : Heart for the House – 2021 Year of The Bible), and said in her introductory remarks (1:17), “I’ve been part of the team at Hillsong Church in Sidney [Australia], and now kind of around the world, for the last 27 years, and second only to my salvation…that was the greatest thing in my life…”
Part of Word of Faith heresy is the habitual mishandling and twisting of Scripture while teaching: taking verses out of context, attempting to make the Bible say things it does not say in order to fit the “theology” of the teacher, and reading oneself, one’s audience, or one’s own ideas into Scripture (eisegesis). You will find multiple examples of Christine Caine teaching this way in the “Additional Resources” section at the end of this article.
Partnering with False Teachers
Christine Caine regularly associates and partners in ministry with false teachers. The Bible clearly forbids this in a number of passages. She has preached at the aforementioned Hillsong on far too many occasions to enumerate, T.D. Jakes events events, Joel Osteen events, Bethel events, at Robert Morris‘ church, Rick Warren’s church, and Steven Furtick’s church (all to co-ed audiences) just to name a few. Paula White considers Christine a friend. Additionally, Christine has close relationships with Beth Moore and Priscilla Shirer, frequently sharing the stage or partnering with both.
But perhaps Christine Caine’s best known and most worrisome bond is with false (Word of Faith) teacher Joyce Meyer. Christine considers Joyce her “spiritual mother”:
…and even went so far as to lay her hands on Joyce Meyer’s Bible, stating:
“Oh yes I did lay my own hands on Joyce Meyer’s Bible and teaching notes and prayed for an impartation of that teaching anointing and revelation. It was a privilege and honor to shadow her this past week. Far more is ‘caught’ than is ever ‘taught’ in life!”

No one who immerses herself in the company of, and partnership with, so many false teachers, even considering one of the most egregious a spiritual mentor, can be trusted to teach the truth of Scripture and sound doctrine.
It’s true, Christine Caine is a lovely, charming woman with an admirable passion for helping people. But this does not excuse or make up for her disobedience to God’s word and teaching false doctrine. These are not minor “differences of opinion” that can be blithely swept under the rug. These are rebellions against the holy God of the universe.
I very much dislike having to warn women away from popular evangelical teachers, thus, it is my hope and prayer that Christine will repent of these sins, learn sound doctrine, and begin to teach it to the women in her audience who so desperately need it. Until such time, however, I regret that I must recommend that neither women nor churches receive teaching from Christine Caine or any of her ministries or materials, nor (in obedience to Scripture) participate in any way with The A21 Campaign or any of her other organizations. Do not have regard for Caine’s offerings.

I am in agreement with this article that women are not to teach men in organized assemblies. While we can share God’s Word and be leaders in certain aspects….the Bible is clear on the subject. I have had to examine myself and my motives….Am I a clanging gong with no love? Have I overstepped my boundaries?
I have interacted with many women Pastors who believe they are following a call from God by the feelings they have. The scriptures they use for support are always out of context.
I used to teach a Bible study on Wednesday nights but women would bring their husbands. It become troublesome to me when the men would introduce bad theology and I would have to correct them. I let the group dissolve stating that I should not teach men.
This created a blessing by the formation of a new Men’s Bible Study.

No false teacher is considered “lovely” according to God’s Word. Outward appearances mean nothing and should not impress us. What “jesus” does Caine love? ‘one that is in rebellion to God’s Word? Sure.. today the popular issue is to be involved in social justice. I’m confident the antiChrist will fully embrace this also.
Yes, you mentioned her unBiblical issues but there should be no praise for any false teacher. I don’t see Jesus praising the Pharisees. Sorry, I’m disappointed here.

I’m sorry to have disappointed you. I understand why you’re concerned, and while it may not change your mind, I’d like to explain why I format these articles the way I do.
First, all of these false teachers are fellow human beings created in the image of God. Yes, He is angry at their sin, but it is sin that Christ bled and died for just like every other sin, because He loves them just like He loves every other sinner. God’s desire is for these people to forsake their false teaching and repent (2 Peter 3:9).
Matthew 7:12 tells me I’m to treat other people the way I would want them to treat me. Ephesians 5:22-23 tell me that kindness and gentleness, among other things, are proof of the Holy Spirit’s work in my life. If someone were writing an article like this about me, I would want her to be as kind and gentle as possible, so that is what I have attempted to do.
Second Timothy 2:24-26 says:
And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.
False teachers are held captive by Satan just like you and I were before we were saved. Being unnecessarily harsh with them creates a barrier to lovingly calling them to repentance. Biblical truth is difficult enough for a sinner to accept. Why would I add unnecessary difficulty on top of that by being harsh? This passage tells me to be patient and gentle. I’m trying to abide by that.
Finally, many false teachers and their supporters assume that any form of critique is a personal attack (and they tend to respond in kind). Being gracious where I can, especially about the person herself, reinforces the concept that this article is not a personal attack, but a rebuke of false doctrine. It not only protects me from anyone who might say I’m being unkind or attacking the person, but it also forces false teachers and their supporters to focus on the pertinent issues rather than allowing them to discount those issues because I’ve said something ugly about the false teacher personally.
Now, could you please provide me with Scripture (chapter and verse) that says I’m not allowed to say kind things about a false teacher’s appearance and actions prior to explaining the false doctrine she teaches and warning people away from her?

Michelle, I have to agree with Discerned. Your demand for a scripture that says we’re not to speak kindly about a false teacher’s appearance and actions is troubling. Do you have a scripture verse to prove that we ARE supposed to speak kindly about them first before explaining their false teaching? Paul tells us that he confronted no less than the Apostle Peter to his face in front of others for his actions. Peter was not a false teacher, but at the time he was not acting in line with the gospel. Paul didn’t say, ‘now Peter, you are very strong, loving and personable and do many good things, but….’ No, Paul addressed Peter’s wrong actions in no uncertain terms. Another time, Jesus told Peter, “get behind me, satan.” Our Lord didn’t bother to soften the blow with a compliment first. Why focus on a teacher’s looks and such when souls are at stake?
Examine also how the Lord Jesus Christ and His apostles handled actual false teachers. The fact is that they had very harsh words for them. Not just about their teachings either, but their persons. They were denounced in the sharpest ways possible and even called names: dogs, snakes, clouds without water, etc. I agree with Discerned here. we are not to soften the blow. Souls are at stake. False teaching is damning. If someone had a serious form of cancer and the doctor complimented their looks and personality first before telling them about it, wouldn’t we wonder, what does that have to do with it? Their very life is at stake. How much more important in addressing the spiritual cancer of false teaching! We should warn people earnestly and urgently and there should be no positive words for the false teacher at all.

There are a lot of lovely people in the world and not all are saved so I don’t see anything wrong with what you wrote. Now, if this woman is part of the ‘word of faith’ movement, well then we see where her error is plainly. Calling Joyce Meyers her spiritual mother is concerning too even if she admires her. And hoping by placing her hand on her Bible to get some of whatever Joyce has? Disturbing. I think her circle of mentors is a bigger problem than teaching men, she should not be teaching anyone. She is being led down a wrong path even if her heart is sincere, she has no truth to teach. She needs to get back to the Bible and read it. She needs to stop looking to these others for the guidance and teaching she should be getting from God. Maybe her intention is to do right only God knows, but I pray He pulls her out of the snake pit before she does too much damage.

Yes, I’m familiar with Liz. I’ve not read any of her books, or examined her teachings, but I’m very concerned about the fact that she rubs shoulders with a number of false teachers including Christine Caine.

I’ve been teaching my teen girls Sunday school class out of her Bad girls books, I taught her Ruth book and really liked it. She spoke at our women’s retreat this year, but I was surprised that I took away no notes from it. I was disappointed. I’m unsure about her teachings I guess, I’ve thought I may not continue to teach from her books. Although I can’t say anything specific I’ve had a problem with.

Is there any reason you can’t just teach them straight from Scripture? That’s the best way not to have to worry about whether the person whose book you’re using is trustworthy or not. We KNOW God is trustworthy :0) If you need a little help, you’re more than welcome to use any of the studies under my “Bible Studies” tab above.

There is one scripture that says women should be silent in church. There are multiple scriptures that support the concept that God will choose and use whom he pleases and they are all “unqualified” by other people’s standards. God did not say women couldn’t be leaders, he said women should be led by their husbands. He did not say he couldn’t use women to teach, he said they should be submissive to the head of the church. Who is the Head of the Church? Who is the head of the wife. If God and gives authority to a woman to be a leader, who is anyone to take that authority away. If her husband leads her in church leadership, who are you to question her ability to be submissive. If she is unmarried and her authority is not filtered through a husband and comes directly from God who are you to say it is false. Discernment doesn’t mean be a religious Pharisee, it means let the Holy Spirit Discern for you bearing witness with your spirit the understanding of the word of God and He calls us to do. We are all members of the body of Christ and just because you don’t understand, doesn’t mean it is against God or the scripture.

Hi TN- Unfortunately, you’re not handling and understanding Scripture properly and you’ve got a few misunderstandings in your comment.
1. God cannot and does not contradict Himself. Ever. None of the Scriptures you’ve cited contradict 1 Timothy 2:12, in which God clearly says, “I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.” Therefore, the Scriptures you’ve cited cannot – and don’t – mean that a woman is allowed to preach to men, instruct men in the Scriptures, or hold authority over men in the gathered body of believers, the church. There are many positions of service, teaching, and leadership in the church which are open to women, but not the ones that have them teaching men or in authority over men.
2. Prophecy and teaching/preaching/authority are not the same thing.
3. Romans 9 is about salvation. It has nothing to do with women teaching or holding authority over men, so it doesn’t support the point you’re trying to make.

Again, God doesn’t contradict Himself, so He doesn’t choose or call women to preach to, teach, or hold authority over men. If He did, He would be a liar and no longer worthy of our trust or worship. Furthermore, 1 Timothy 2:12 isn’t the only place in Scripture that teaches that women are not to do these things. The entire pattern of Scripture, plus other explicit verses teach this. But even if there were only one verse that taught this, could you please give me a passage of Scripture, chapter and verse, that shows that we have the freedom to disobey God if He only said something once?
5. “and they are all “unqualified” by other people’s standards.”
No, women are “unqualified” from teaching or leading men by God’s standards, which are clearly spelled out in the Bible.
6. “If God and gives authority to a woman to be a leader, who is anyone to take that authority away.”
Again, God doesn’t give authority to women to lead men (they can certainly lead other women and children). He clearly says in His word that they are not to, and He doesn’t contradict Himself. If a woman tries to usurp that authority which has not been given to her, God has authorized the church to exercise church discipline against her (Matthew 18:15-20, 1 Corinthians 5) to correct her.
7. “If her husband leads her in church leadership,”
Could you please cite the Scripture that says husbands/pastors have the authority to disregard God’s word and allow women to lead men when God has clearly said they are not to? No husband, pastor, or anyone else has the authority to disobey God’s word by giving someone permission to sin. Does a husband have the authority to tell his wife it’s OK to lie? To commit adultery? To be selfish? Of course not. And no woman should submit to a husband/pastor who is encouraging her to ignore God’s word and deliberately sin.
8. “Discernment doesn’t mean be a religious Pharisee.”
And being a “religious Pharisee” doesn’t mean handling God’s word properly and expecting Christians to obey it, which is what I’m doing here. It means making up your own rules and disregarding God’s word in favor of what you want, which is what you’re doing here.
9. “it means let the Holy Spirit Discern for you”
Which He does through the right handling (2 Timothy 2:15) and teaching of His word. The Holy Spirit is the author of Scripture. He has already spoken to us about these things in His written word.
10. Preaching to men is not the only biblical problem with Christine Caine. Even if she didn’t preach to men she would still be a false teacher due to the heretical Word of Faith doctrine she subscribes to and teaches as well as the fact that she rebels against Scripture by partnering with other false teachers.

As you pointed out, Christ is the head of the church and He gets to set the rules for the church. And one of the rules Christ has set is that women are not to preach to, teach Scripture to, or hold authority over men in the church. As you said, we are to submit to Him.

Proverbs 15:1 NASB. Michelle i feel you try to do this reproof and correction are never easy. As humans we are all created in his image. The enemy is working over time ti discredit this. May God give you wisdom to guide women with grace love and Truth. For Jesus himself said the TRUTH will set you free .
